Danielle, Sounds like you've really been able to connect with the kids you're working with at LYSA TOPSoccer. Are you assigned one child for the whole season? Or are you assigned a team? What is most difficult about working with these kids? They all sound so sweet and it seems to be a great experience!
Hi Sara - thanks for your sweet note! The hope is to be assigned to just one child for the season, but as interim volunteers and with the random attendance of the athletes, we ended up working with different athletes each week. I think it turned out even better that way, personally. I had the chance to get to know many of the kids and learn to adore all of their personalities. The most difficult aspect of being a Buddy is initially learning how to communicate with each child in a way they will understand. Each child has different communication techniques and has different expectations and skill sets. Overall, I went in to the experience hopeful to be paired with just one athlete, but working with many of the kids turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
